Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder
Today I'm going to be talking about the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder! I picked this up while I was shopping in Harrods in London because I clearly couldn't afford anything else in that department store but really wanted to visit it. Laura Mercier isn't really available in New Zealand, so I carried this powder around in my luggage for 5 weeks just in case it accidentally spilled in my suitcase because the lid really doesn't shut that securely!
With multiple major awards and counting, Laura Mercier's "best in beauty", cult-favorite bestseller is your go-to setting powder. Loose powder feels luxuriously dense in the jar, feels incredibly soft and silky-light on your skin. Pros love the super smooth application: goes on evenly, blends effortlessly, provides great wear. Sets makeup without adding weight or texture.
The jar this powder comes housed in is very classic Laura Mercier, but it also has the dodgiest lid of all time that doesn't screw on that well so I'm quite concerned about traveling with it. This powder is translucent, but has a light yellow colour initially, blending out to be colourless on my skin.
I find this powder very easy to apply, I prefer to use a large fluffy brush to dust my entire face sparingly with the powder. I find that this powder doesn't add any colour or coverage to my skin and it doesn't change the finish of my base which I really enjoy. I find a lot of powders too mattifying which is a shame when I want my skin to look dewy and this is one of the only powders that I've tried before that doesn't really alter the finish, but still sets my foundation to a sticky free finish.
I compared the longevity of this powder to my current setting powder which is the A'Pieu Mineral 100 Soft Skin Powder. I found that both lasted as well as each other on my skin, but the A'Pieu mattified my skin more initially. However, at the end of the day they made my skin look the same.
I can see why the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder has so much hype, but for me the thing that I like about it the most is that it leaves my skin looking dewy, but it doesn't feel sticky. There is nothing worse then having hair stuck to your face because your foundation is too dewy or sticky, and I find that my hair sticks to my face enough as it is! I enjoy how big the powder container is as well, you get a lot of powder for the money you spend because it is relatively expensive, but this should last me quite a while which is better for the environment than using many little jars that cannot be refilled. However, the lid is pretty dodgy and doesn't close securely which makes me a little nervous to travel with. I will likely reuse one of my smaller moisturiser jars that has been thoroughly cleaned out to travel with this powder instead.
